ClimateView showcases the Transition Pilot at Smart City Expo in Barcelona
Pioneering data-informed collaboration for sustainable Dutch cities.
BARCELONA, SPAIN – At the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, ClimateView showcased the Transition Pilot, a pioneering new sustainability initiative. Hosted within the Netherlands Pavilion, ClimateView presented this groundbreaking project alongside representatives from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, DMI, HetEnergieBureau, and the forward-thinking cities of Rotterdam, Emmen, Haarlem, and Groningen.
The Transition Pilot aims to transform how municipalities and regions measure and report on sustainability efforts, focusing on standardized metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that facilitate collaboration across jurisdictions. This framework helps municipalities streamline other climate initiatives, aligning cities and regions to create a cohesive approach to tracking emissions, monitoring resource use, and measuring progress in renewable energy and urban resilience.
ClimateView co-founders Einar Bodström and Orren Shalit, along with HetEnergieBureau representatives Serge van den Berg and Lukas de Koning, engaged with attendees to discuss how the Transition Pilot could serve as a model for cities worldwide. Through this data-centric approach, they illustrated how shared metrics can aid in aligning sustainability goals at local, regional, and national levels.
“This project embodies a true collaborative spirit, bringing cities and key stakeholders together,” said Einar Bodström. “With the Transition Pilot, municipalities can work with shared data sources, enabling a common understanding of progress and challenges in climate action.”
ClimateView’s participation at the Smart City Expo World Congress provided a platform to share the Transition Pilot with a broader audience of city planners, policymakers, and sustainability experts. Attendees learned how standardized metrics can support more strategic urban planning and accelerate progress toward shared climate goals.
Held annually, the Smart City Expo World Congress is a major event for urban innovation, drawing leaders and visionaries in sustainability. ClimateView’s contribution to the event emphasized the role of data in addressing climate challenges. As cities and regions worldwide commit to ambitious climate targets, frameworks like the Transition Pilot may play a crucial role in creating measurable, comparable, and aligned progress across borders.
